Grade Reminders

Tuesday I will be sending academic notifications to parents who have promedios below 68. If you have not turned in any assignments, you must have them turned in by Monday to have a chance for them to be counted.

5to Curso Marketing Research Assignment - Survey

Assignment:

Since we have been learning about market research, it is time to put your new skills into action. You are responsible for designing, carrying out and analyzing a market survey.

STEP ONE: Develop a Research Question. It must be a research question that is specific, and may allow the use of a survey in finding specific information for the research project. You will receive a completion grade for developing a question and having it approved by the instructor.

STEP TWO: Develop a formal Research Plan, and write a formal proposal for your activity. The Research Plan will be 300-500 words and must follow the Paper Writing Guidelines on the Course Blog www.quintocursomarketing.blogspot.com and it must be typed or printed off a printer. The required headings will be:

RESEARCH QUESTION
List your research question.

BACKGROUND
A brief explanation about the history or status of the issue to be investigated. Also explain why you chose to do this research question.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This is a detailed explanation of who you will be surveying, and when, where and why you will be targeting this group. You must justify why making a survey of your research targeted group will provide the information needed to answer your Research Question.

LIMITATIONS
This will be a brief listing of issues that might make it difficult to complete your project, including lack of time, resources or access to your target populace, and measures you will take to overcome the limitations.

TIME LINE
You will plan for completing the project in a series of steps, and provide times and dates for those actions to be completed. For example:

ACTION DATE STARTED DATE COMPLETED
Develop Survey Questions May 12 May 17
Instructor Approves Survey Questions NA May 18
Conduct Survey June 14 July 5

Please note: This is not a complete example. The Time Line you develop should be much more extensive than this, and should include all steps and tasks to complete your research project, including writing and rewriting reports, consulting with teachers, etc.

STEP THREE: After your Research proposal is turned in and approved you will develop your survey questions. At a minimum, your questions will include the following:

IDENTIFICATION

This is a short statement you say to introduce yourself to the survey participant, for example: “Hello, my name is Juan and I am a student at Colegio Americano’s Business program. For my school work I am conducting a market survey. May I take four minutes of your time to ask you a few questions?”

CONTROL QUESTIONS
These are 5-10 questions to determine your subject’s knowledge of the information you are asking about, and to establish that they are people who fall into your target survey group. For example:

1) What is your name?
2) What is your age?
3) How many people live at your home?
4) Have you bought any prepackaged Ceviche product?
5) Are you familiar with the products, CevicheReal and EcuaCeviche?
6) Have you ever bought CevicheReal?
7) Have you ever bought EcuaCeviche?

PRIMARY QUESTIONS
These are 3-7 questions which develop the primary information you need to develop information for your research project. For example:

1) Which Ceviche do you think is less expansive, Ceviche Real or EcuaCeviche?
2) Which product do you think has the best quality, Ceviche Real or EcuaCeviche?
3) Which product do you think has the best flavor, Ceviche Real or EcuaCeviche?
4) Which product has the most attractive packaging, Ceviche Real or EcuaCeviche?
5) When you make a decision about purchasing prepackaged ceviche, which is most important, price, quality, taste, or packaging?

SECONDARY QUESTIONS
Secondary questions are those to ask if the survey participant gives negative answers to the control questions. For example, if the participant’s answers to the following control questions where as follows:

1) Have you bought any prepackaged Ceviche product? A: NO
2) Are you familiar with the products, CevicheReal and EcuaCeviche? A: NO
3) Have you ever bought CevicheReal? A: NO
4) Have you ever bought EcuaCeviche? A: NO

Then you might have secondary questions such as:

1) Do you eat ceviche at home or at restaurants?
2) Would you consider purchasing prepackaged ceviche products if you where familiar with them?

CONCLUSION
This will be a short statement you say to the survey participant to close the interview. For example: “Thank you very much for your help on my research project. Have a wonderful day.”

Once you have completed developing your survey list, it will be evaluated by the instructor, who may suggest changes. Once the survey is finally approved, you will be ready to complete the next phase.

STEP FOUR: Conduct the survey. You will be required to conduct a survey of at least 25 individuals. The participants MAY NOT be family members or people from Colegio Americano. You will be required to keep a record of people you talk to including their specific answers to each question of your survey.

STEP FIVE: Analyze the survey.

STEP SIX: Complete a Research Report. This will be a formal report of the results of your survey. It will be 1000 words, not including your reporting of the raw data of your survey. The headings include:

(ALSO NOTE: This is a repeat of your original Research Proposal, although it should be modified to reflect changes you may have made during your project, such as changes in your Research Questions, or different dates for your completed tasks. IT DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR 1000 WORD REQUIREMENT FOR THIS PAPER.)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This is a short summary of 100-200 words that gives a complete description of your project, including how you conducted your survey and your results and conclusions. (This section does count for your 1000 words).

RESEARCH
This should be a complete description of the numerical results of your research, including charts, as needed to explain the data. Please note that this does not include any conclusions or discussions about the information. (This section DOES NOT count towards the 1000 words).

DISCUSSION

Are there any facts that do not seem to agree with each other? This should take the information from your survey, and include outside research about your product you are researching, to come to a conclusion about the significance of your work. This section should run between 400-600 words and does count towards the paper’s 1000 word requirement.

CONCLUSION
This is a short (100-200 words) section that should summarize your paper, and give the answer to your research question. If there are additional research that should be done to clarify problems with your results, you should make a recommendation for that additional research. This section does count against the word requirement of this paper.

BIBLIOGRAPHY
This is a complete listing of all resources you used for secondary sources for your research, including a list of all documents, web pages and other sources you used. All sources must be listed according to APA or MLA standards. This section DOES NOT count against the word requirement of the project.
